Proposed Northern Pacific railroad routes are indicated in red and constructed lines in black. Puget Sound, Commencement Bay, Budd's Inlet, American Lake, Nisqually River, Des Chutes (Deschutes) River, Puyallup River (mouth) and other bodies of water are tinted blue. The Union Pacific Railroad surveys lines are indicated in yellow and the Portland Puget Sound Railway Company upgrade in green. The location of small towns located in Pierce and Thurston Counties is indicated. The boundary of Nisqually Indian Reservation and the partial (southern) boundary of the Puyallup Indian Reservation are shown. The proposed Northern Pacific Tacoma rail line to Point Defiance, which is shown in red was not constructed until 1914. The report map number "308-1" is written on the reverse of the map. "Corres. S-1080" is written at top right corner of map.
