Quinault canoe paddle. Handcarved from yew wood and unpainted. The transverse grip was carved as a separate piece. The shaft is flattened. The junction of the blade and shaft is a smooth curve, and the blade is leaf-shaped, widening slightly, then narrowing to the tip in a smooth curve. The shaft is slightly bowed.

Puget Sound style (Tulalip) handcarved maple canoe paddle. The blade, transverse grip and upper portion of the shaft have been painted dark red. The transverse grip does not appear to be a separate piece. The shaft is rounded. The blade has a sharp shoulder at the shaft, and the blade has a distinct bulge in the middle, and a smaller bulge just above the tip.
