The exhibition Little Black Dress: A Fashion Evolution was created by the Washington State History Museum featuring 37 dresses from our collection, ranging from the 1860s to the 2010s. Find all the requisite accessories that span that time period, too--purses, shoes, hats, gloves.
The exhibition looks at how the color black and the form of women’s clothes over the years mirrors changes in societal norms and the shifts in women’s roles. And, what would a show about fashion be without a fashion SHOW? This spectacular evening includes a runway show with DJ Action Slacks and emcee Amanda Westbrook (host of Tacoma's CityLine), refreshments, passed appetizers, a no-host bar and more!
Runway models are local icons, leaders and celebrities, women who have accomplished much and shared their talents with our community. The dresses will be loaned by vintage clothiers in and around Tacoma, or will be garments with personally significant history for the wearer. Who will you see on the runway? These amazing women are sharing their time with you: Secretary of State Kim Wyman, retired legislator Karen Fraser, Asia Pacific Cultural Center Director Patsy Suhr O'Connell, Tacoma Urban League President T'wina Franklin Nobles, and City of Tacoma Arts Administrator Amy McBride to name just a few!
A limited number of special VIP tickets at $50 each are available - the VIP package will include a curator-led tour of the exhibition Little Black Dress: A Fashion Evolution prior to the fashion show and a meet & greet with the models afterward.
Get your tickets today! Experience the Fashion Show, see this gorgeous and fun exhibition, learn about how forms followed norms, have a beverage and socialize. Get your photo taken at the Step & Repeat by a dazzlingly skilled photographer! You'll feel like a celebrity.
