Movies at the Mansion
First Four Fridays in August: August 1, 8, 15, 22
Doors open at 8:30pm; movies begin at dusk, approximately 9:00pm
FREE and open to the public. Donations are appreciated!
The State Capital Museum invites you to the first four Fridays in August for Movies at the Mansion. Bring a chair and warm blanket, wrap yourself up and enjoys some classic American cinema. Movies are free. Snacks and drinks can be purchased before the show.
MOVIE SCHEDULE
- August 1: Rebel Without A Cause
Starring James Dean, Natalie Wood and Sal Mineo.
This is a tragic tale of a troubled boy trying to find his way in a new town. His first day of school is met with bullies, a girl and then leads to hiding out from the law.
- August 8: The Outlaw
A story of betrayal by a controlling, power hungry egomaniac and that was behind the camera. This movie is set in the old west with Billy the Kid, Pat Garrett and Doc Holiday as the main players. Jayne Russell stars in this Howard Hughes directed western.
- August 15: To Have and Have Not
Based on Ernest Hemmingway's book, To Have and Have Not follows Harry Morgan and his sidekick as they seek passengers for their boating business. The pair ends up transporting a fugitive in hiding from the Nazis. Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall star in this World War II thriller.
- August 22: The Philadelphia Story
After throwing out her playboy husband, Tracy Lord finds a new, respectable man to marry. Unfortunately Tracy's first husband shows up at the Lord Mansion the day before the wedding to shake things up. Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant and James Stewart star in this classic rom-com.

Memoir Writing Group
Tuesday afternoons, 1:00 to 2:30 PM
A weekly life-writing class led by author Delores Nelson
Beginning with a small but enthusiastic group of adults, the Memoir Writing Group at the State Capital Museum has been meeting regularly for nearly two years. The group explores the past through writing and assembling their memoirs. Lead by Delores Kelso Nelson, a writer and teacher in the Olympia area for over 15 years, the memoir class serves participants by igniting lost memories, supporting practicing memoir writers, and offering a chance to socialize.
