Description
This is a part-time position with a Wednesday-Saturday (9:30-5:00) work schedule.
Positions at this level serve as an informational resource including receiving, escorting, and
assisting visitors, and conducting guided tours for a comprehensive tour services program.
Duties:
Museum Support Services
Meet with prospective clients for rental events (meetings, weddings, receptions, etc.) to discuss
the facilities rental locations (board room, mezzanine, grand lobby, etc.), availability, pricing,
decorations, and special needs/requirements. Providing follow-up to ascertain if the prospective
client has selected a venue for their event and to persuade them to utilize our facility. Securing
required contract and deposit.
Providing set-up and tear-down for public programs/private rental events. Assisting contractors
by answering questions and concerns during the events. Receive, escort and assist visitors by providing
or guiding them to various items of interest during the events or programs.
Provide monitoring in the grand lobby, gallery areas, and serve as back-up to Admissions during
heavy visitor times. Ensuring the attendees are informed of various exhibits in the museum as well
as reminding visitors to adhere to the rules of visiting the museum (noise, flash photography,
back-packs, etc.).
Provide security back-up coverage when bank runs are made by agency designated individuals.
Education –
Assists with receiving of school groups and processing of school group payment processes.
Assist with public programs to include Third Thursday evening programs by being available to
troubleshoot questions and provide support to speakers/guests.
Assists with the training program for volunteers, performs research for training materials and
assists with the development and delivery of formal training sessions and orientations.
Member, Donor and Public Relations –
Greets group visitors; conducts group tours by providing explanation of the facility and exhibits.
Assists in planning and executing civic events that include member openings, annual festivals,
and special paid programs at the History Museum.
Providing membership information at designated stations determined by agency (i.e.,
tents, outreach, Third Thursday, etc). Information to include benefits of membership,
Columbia Magazine, as well as current and upcoming exhibits and events.
Admission Desk –
Receive visitors and process admission fees, including arriving groups and school tours as a
back-up for lunch and/or vacation/sick leave. Direct visitors to museum facilities, programs and
events. Direct guest inquiries to Information Desk for more detailed information.
Assists with processing e-commerce orders for books, magazines and souvenirs.
Qualifications:
Bachelor degree in liberal arts with preference given to history and two years of paid or
volunteer tour experience, or clerical/public contact (customer service) experience.
Supplemental Information:
Knowledge and at least 6 months experience setting up Audio/Visual equipment.
Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Must pass a background check.
Must have or show proof of completing First Aid/CPR/AED training (certified) within first 6
months of employment.
