MYERS, Joel, ledger. 1 v.

Abstract: Joel Myers was a farmer near Steilacoom, Washington Territory.

Biography: Joel Myers (1819-1893) arrived in Oregon Territory in December of 1850. He took up a Donation Land Claim in Thurston County, south of Steilacoom, Washington Territory. In 1855 he enlisted in the Nisqually Ferry Guards during the Indian Wars, however, his enlistment was withdrawn because he refused to take the military oath.

Scope and content: The volume contains Myers’ occasional credit and debit entries, 1854-1868, and three pages of entries detailing a prospecting trip He took in 1868. Myers was not systematic in his record keeping, however, the entries do provide an interesting insight into prices and expenses around early Puget Sound.
