Large canoe model, Northern Northwest Coast culture area / Haida, 1880-ca. 1915. Hand carved of wood and painted in Northwest Coast formline design in black and red. High rectangular bow has a deep groove carved in the middle. One side of the flat area is painted black and the other is a checked red. The upper edge is painted black; the inner is painted red. Stern has a red check design on top. Exterior is painted with black and red Northwest Coast design, possibly depicting a bear with jagged teeth at front. Three large black bands cross midsection of canoe.
