    Dugout canoe, Southern Northwest Coast culture area / Puget Sound Salish, 1875-1900. Handmade and carved of cedar; hand-adzed. The canoe has raised and split bow and shorter stern that has slightly slanted top and straight lower edge. The exterior is painted black; the interior is painted dark red. Dowel like wood on edges. Behind prow is a black painted seat; it has a carved hole in center.

    Oval basket (a) with lid (b). Coiled with raffia stitching over a bundle of unidentified material. Imbricated decoration in bear grass and an unidentified dark material; triangles or arrow heads. There is a strip of dark material inlaid at the center of the basket and at the edge of the lid. There are four triangles on the lid and a small loop handle at the center. Puget Sound Salish, 1890-1920.

    Basket, southern Northwest Coast culture area / Puget Sound Salish, Puyallup attribution, late 19th century-ca. 1915? Handmade using coiled technique in cedar root and imbricated design in yellow bear grass and dark brown fern root (?). The base is done in a clockwise spiral and is oval shaped. It is app. 5 3/4" x 4 1/2". The sides curve up and outward to have slightly curved sides and large, oval shaped opening at rim. The rim edge has braided edge. Around the rim edge are numerous rawhide loops. There are three rawhide loops on sides app. 4" from base. The sides are imbricated with yellow bear grass. There appears to be a repeating design of inverted and angular V shapes in dark brown color. There is a single stitch at bottom and horizontal rows on either side of top.

The sides are stitched into the edge of the base and are cedar root stitching over a bundle of split cedar root. Fully imbricated with a design of human figures in dark brown fern root (?) on a background of natural bear grass.There are four figures on each long side and two on each end. Puget Sound Salish.

    Oval basket, openwork twining of cedar withes. One side has three vertical bands of bear grass overlay, two with three strips of bear grass and one with two strips. The rim is finished with a band of bear grass, above it the warps are gathered into braids and the braids are incorporated into a braided band at the rim. There is a handle of braided withes with is tied at the center and broken away from one side. Puget Sound Salish.
