nitrate negative, showing a man standing on an elevated platform and holding a KMO radio microphone inside a building. The location is most likely the Spanaway Pavilion Dance Hall, Spanaway Park, Pierce County, Tacoma, Washington, The unnamed man is probably a KMO Radio announcer and possibly the emcee for the Spanaway "Walkathon" dance marathon, Marvin Boland, photographer, May 25, 1931. The 1931 event advertised as a "Walkathon" was actually a dance marathon contest. The dance marathon closed unexpectedly on May 23, 1931, following the arrest of the dance promoters (Norman Rieman, G. B. Breseman and Harold Avery). On June 10, 1931, the Tacoma City Council passed an ordinance prohibiting dance marathons within the city limits. The photographer's record book indicates the date of May 25, 1931, However, the promotional photograph may actually date several days earlier.
