    This image shows a rusted girder on the slope above the western shoreline of Gig Harbor, near the site where the first Tacoma Narrows Bridge collapsed in 1940. A team from WSHS inspected several pieces at this location, which were later recovered and featured as part of the exhibition "Bridging the Narrows" (3/31/07-11/18/07) at the WSHM.     Piece of concrete with imbedded rocks. Flat on two sides, roughly triangular in shape. Extending from taller flat side is piece of rusted steel rebar that extends vertically above highest point of concrete. A secon dpiece extends horizontally for app. 10". Fibrous material wrapped around part of rebar. Another piece extends vertically from oppositek end. Upper half and lower section covered with fibrous material with imbedded rocks. Remnant from first Tacoma Narrows Bridge, 1939-1940.

    Piece of gray concrete with imbedded stones. Roughly rectangular with steel rebar indentation along center top. Sides are flat. Extending from either end are twisted pieces of rusted rebar with bands app. every 3/4". One end has lumps of wood and/or fiber attached around rebar.
