    Pencil sketch with watercolor by James M. Alden. The subject is Fort Nisqually, a Hudson's Bay Company post in the area that is now Washington State. The stockade encloses several buildings. There are smaller buildings and a tent outside the walls. Date 1852-1860. Made by Capt. James M. Alden, 1852-1860, when in command of USS Active in Puget Sound.

    Photograph of two buildings in Fort Wrangell, Alaska, identified as originally part of the Russian Stockade there (Redoubt Saint Dionysius). One building is a long 1 1/2 story clapboard building with a front porch supported by slender columns and two gables. A banner hanging from this building identifies the location of the Stikeen [sic] River Journal. At right angles to this building is a log house with a central chimney. In the dirt yard between these two buildings is an evergreen tree and a structure that looks like a hanging scaffold. One man is walking through the yard, and another is standing on the sidewalk in front of the log house.

    One piece (ill., 14 x 33 cm.) engraving from Fremont's Report of the Exploring Expedition to the Rocky Mountains in the year 1842. There is a illustration of a North American Indian man and woman with a baby on her back standing near a stream in the lower center of the illustration. In the lower right corner, there is a teepee next to a wagon with several men standing or sitting around the teepee. In the background, to the left is a stockade fort with a large group of teepees to its left. There are bare, rolling hills in the background. Black and gray on off white paper.

    Souvenir plate made of white ceramic with transfer print decoration. Round; rounded raised base; raised sides. Sloping rim above depressed round center. At center of plate is round decal with color illustrations of sites in Oregon. At center is gold color filled map of Oregon with sprig of Oregon grape. Around it are illustrations of a beaver, the Astor Column, road along Oregon coast, Fort Vancouver, a settler's home, a logging train, mill and lumber flume, State Capitol building, Crater Lake, Bonneville Dam, a girl diving, a covered wagon, a ski lift above Timberline Lodge at Mt. Hood, and Multnomah Falls. Rim edge is green with gold trim edging. Overall pattern of gold fleur de lis on the green background.
