Dated 1886. The group of 28 are standing in front of or on the porch of a clapboard sided building with a small covered porch. Mr. Kindred is sitting in a rocking chair on the porch. Behind the group is a shed and a pile of chopped wood. The location is said to be near Astoria, OR, possibly at Fort Stevens (location partly obliterated).

The Port of Astoria pilot boat, Hazel, is in lower right foreground, viewed from the stern, seeing most of the starboard side. The S.S. T.J. Potter was built in 1888 at Portland, OR, by John F. Steffen for the Oregon Ry. &v Nav. Co. She ran on the Columbia and Puget Sound. In 1921 she was burned. Canceled stamp and address on reverse.
