Creation Date: 1911Catalog ID: 1994.71.10Call Number: 1994.71.10A portrait of a Native American woman known as Lucy, who was said to be 120 years old and survived an earlier Indian massacre. Lucy sits on a blanket and holds a partially completed corn husk bag on her lap indicating that she is from one of the Plateau tribes. She is wearing a plaid dress with two choker of two strands of beads. Her hair is braided and has has a fringed leather hair ornament on her right braid. There is a striped blanket hanging behind her. Handwritten printing at the bottom reads: "Lucy the oldest Indian woman, (A 35) 120 yrs old, at Astoria Centennial 1911". The postcard was probably sold as a souvenir at the Astoria Oregon Centennial celebration in 1911. -
