    Creation Date: 1948
    Catalog ID: 2017.23.3
Political cartoon, titled "Suggestion - Row in the Same Direction," by Howard Fisher. Black ink, pencil, white ink on off-white paper. The image shows a rowboat with two men facing in opposite directions with their oars banging together. On the left is an older man in a black hat, labeled "Congressional Aid." On the right is a man in a sleeveless t-shirt, labeled "Columbia Basin Action." At this end of the boat is a beaver in checked pants preparing to throw a rope to a man clinging to some rocks in the water. The man is calling "Help!" and is labeled "flood victim." The tops of buildings are visible in the water in the background. Fisher used the beaver in checked pants as his trademark. The cartoon is undated, but it probably refers to the flood that innundated Vanport, OR in 1948.
